Mediation as a dispute resolution process
Sometimes disputes can be best resolved through mediation.
Mediation is an informal and flexible dispute resolution process. The mediator's role is to guide the parties toward their own resolution.
Through joint sessions and separate meetings with parties, the mediator helps both sides define the issues clearly, understand each other's viewpoint and move to a resolution.
The mediator is an impartial and independent person who helps the parties identify the issues and explore options for resolution. The mediator has no authority to make a decision or even compel the parties to make a decision. Mediation is non-binding, until parties agree on a resolution.
